Atlantic Puffin

For those who are unable to travel to the far reaches of the globe to experience penguins, puffins are the next best thing. It is the only puffin native to the Atlantic Ocean and can easily be experienced in such places as Elliston, Newfoundland where a large group gathers every late spring for breeding season where they occupy unique cliffside burrows. These "clowns of the sea" are aptly named owing to their protuberant colourful beak and whimsical interaction with each other and any nearby humans. Standing only approximately 8 inches tall, they are surprisingly small but an encounter with a puffin is unforgettable. All of my puffin images were photographed in Elliston. Please enjoy.
